Impressive Ceremonies Open of all Semester University of Nevada officials students faculty alumni special guests and local townspeople gathered at Mackay Stadium last night for the first all Roundup Started by a spectacular fireworks salute at 8 pm the program included talks by University President Minard 'Stout Gover nor Charles Russell and' Rt Rev William Lewis Episcopal Bishop of Ne vada Associated Students President Don Travis ser ved as master of cere monies Entertainment for the first Roundup featured a solo by Reno vocalist Joe Battaglia who sang of the Sage and a Nevada ballad He was accompanied on the piano by Dr rederick ree burne of the University music faculty Under direction of Prof elton Hickman the Uni versity band played a med ley of college songs and marches followed by the Nevada fight song led by the University student cheer leaders The audi ence joined in on this num ber An impressive ceremony where the audience struck matches at a given mom ent illuminating the then blacked out stadium to symbolize knowledge as a light in the darkness was conducted during the pro gram The all Roundup was started this year and is tentatively scheduled to take place in forthcoming years as a gathering of the University family for a re dedication towards the ideals of learning Last program also saw spotlight intro ductions of the Wolf Pack football squad for the 1957 season and their coach Gordon McEachron The team split up into two squads for a brief seasonal preview scrimmage follow ing the introductions Among the special guests who attended the Roundup were chairman of the board of regents Archie Grant president of the Associated Women Stu dents Myram Borders Alumni president Lee De Lauer Russell Mills re presenting Mayor Len Harris of Reno and Ray
