W. Kent Brown, 32, is a former Nevada Division of Investigation officer who worked as a reservation police officer when he was indicted June 25 for steroid trafficking.

Brown was scheduled for trial Monday in U.S. District Court in Reno. He pleaded guilty Tuesday to 10 drug-related counts and will be sentenced March 1 6. Co-defendant David Schmall, also a reservation officer, pleaded guilty last week to using a telephone to arrange for the sale of steroids. Brown lawyer David Houston said Brown was relieved to not face two gun counts, which could have brought him 25 years in prison.

Brown was charged with gun offenses because he was alleged to have delivered the drugs while in uniform and carrying his duty weapon. Four months into job, judge says he's done ELY Ron Niman has been on the job as Ely municipal judge less than four months, and wants out. But he still outlasted his predecessor. The Ely City Council approved advertising for a new municipal judge after Niman said he is finished with the job. Council member Randy Conner said the problem arose with the clerk's office, but did not go into detail.

He just said Niman's message to the city is, "Get someone quick," the Ely Daily Times reported. Niman, a former justice of the peace, was temporarily appointed judge in September at a salary of $250 a week to fill in for G. L. Critchfield until a permanent successor could be found.
